Tentative Website Proposal

Music has a huge influence on people. From the basic melody to a long a beautiful concerto. The internet has made it easy for people to enjoy this wherever they are. Because of this, websites have dedicated the time to make music available to people be it streaming to the computer of to download. Sites like www.listen.com and www.pandora.com allow the user to stream the music in the browser. Listen.com lets the user search for what they want to listen too and play one song at a time. Pandora.com lets the user tell the website what they want to listen too and the site plays back what that song or band has in common with other songs or bands. My proposal it to combine the effects of both sites. MusicMashUp.com will let the user search song by song or let the site choose what next to play according to the similarity of the song or band play to the next songs.

MusicMashUp will be a combination of many things. A music search site, a spin off of the Music Genome Project and a music player will all be combined into one so the user has almost unlimited music at their finger tips. The user will see a simple search bar when they arrive at the site. Entering a band name or song name will start the search off and running as. If the user sees what they want, its click and play. The user will then be given a choice. To have the site look for other similar songs based on common traits with the song being played, or to go ahead and look for another song or band. It’s all in the users hand what they want to listen to.

What is the Capstone?

When I hear the work capstone I picture a similarity to the word keystone. The keystone being what holds everything together, without it, everything would fall apart. Upon looking it up I found that it means the crowning achievement. The best of it all in over words.

This makes me look at this project in a whole new light. This is it. Basicly its the test of all that I have learned since I started this school and what I do not only reflects back on me but also reflects back on the schools ability to teach me. No pressure. Me being my own worst critic I look at me previous work and keep telling myself I could have done better. I ask myself why I didn’t do one thing or another instead of what I did. I must remember that I did not know what I know now.

I know that I can go back and change somethings to my earlier work and I know that I will do that for my portfolio but still I have that nagging in the back of my mind saying don’t do that. Whats done is done. Move ahead and just remember to do better next time. But these are works that I created and I want them to be better than what they are now.

All I know is that this project for Capstone will be a challenge in its self. I know I am capable of doing it, I just have to remember what I have learned in the past and move forward with it.

Capstone

After looking more into the idea, I like wanting to make a music search site like www.pandora.com. But at the same time I am at the moment not sure how to get the coding to work for it. So I will fall back on my basic understanding of AJAX and Javascript and hopefully be able to take it to the next level with what I will be learning in Flash 3 this quarter also. This will also let me bring in music videos and such if I want.

On a side entry, these are the top visited sites that I usually go to when I am board.

www.digg.com

www.facebook.com

www.pandora.com(you need music to code by)

www.deviantart.com

www.foxnews.com

www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation

www.gmail.com

www.meebo.com(its easier to talk through a browser than downloading the things all the time)

www.worldofwarcraft.com(yeah yeah shut up)

www.ctrlaltdel-online.com

Comparing these sites I noticed one thing that they all have in common. Great back end coding and user easy navigation. Looks like I have to work extra hard to catch up with these.

And now some entertainment!
